First off, let’s get this straight: we’re not trying to objectify the act of girls playing sports here. We love women! We love sports! Women who play sports are awesome! There are tons of reason for women to play sports that have absolutely nothing to do with the way they look when they are playing them!
However, there’s nothing wrong with people enjoying the view as much for the sake of awesome athleticism as for the sake of well-shaped, well-toned bodies. And women who participate in the following sports have plenty of both to offer. Besides, if you’re a women who looks good playingsport, can you really say that it means absolutely nothing to you? Most people like to succeed at things. These women simply succeed in sexiness in addition to balancing, throwing, kicking, and jumping.

Picture Of The Day: Lingerie Bowl Wardrobe Malfunction

This year’s halftime show at the Super Bowl was considered by many to be among the worst ever.  What the Black Eyed Peas probably could have used was a wardrobe malfunction.  That didn’t happen, as the NFL’s big game wouldn’t be providing any accidental nudity this year.  The 2011 Lingerie Bowl, on the other hand, would be.
It may only be one cheek, but what a cheek it is!

Female Athletes That Could Snap You Like A Twig

We spend a lot of time at TPS talking about the hottest women in sports, but of course there is a totally different facet to female athletes that merits discussion – many of them could beat the crap out of you. Granted men have a genetic advantage when it comes to strength, but that advantage will only take us so far when we are up against the likes of these women. So say what you will to them, but I recommend you be respectful an courteous, otherwise you could end up as a stain on the floor.
Just because she engaged in fake wrestling doesn’t mean she’s not a real bad-ass. I mean, just look at her. She’s huge. Is there anything else you need to know? Her arms are roughly the size of my thighs, and, in her heyday, she regularly lifted people up and threw them to the ground. Doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time, but if it does for you, I’ve got her number.
She’s the best-known female fighter for a reason. She made her debut to mainstream culture during the nationally televised CBS MMA exhibition and has shown herself to be a force ever since then. She may only be #3 in the world, but she’s #1 in our nightmares.
She’s actually kind of small, but don’t let the tight, small frame fool you. This woman earns her living throwing her body over a bar using a pole. Which means she could just as easily hand plant on your coffee table and kick you in the head. I’m not saying she would – she seems like a sweet girl – but she could.
Any female that’s got the Gracie DNA is going to be on this list with very few questions asked. Kira hasn’t gotten into MMA, but in the realms of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and grapping, she’s a world champion. So yeah I think she could take you in a fight. Hard. She’s also only 25 years old, which means she’s gonna get tougher, while you just get fatter.
5’6”, 123 lbs doesn’t sound THAT intimidating. Until you realizes that Julie uses every inch and pound to beat her opponents to a bloody pulp in MMA fights. She’s currently only ranked tenth in the circuit, but if you get a sense of confidence from that, you’re probably digging your own grave.

An American weightlifter, despite being only 5’1” and 130 lbs, happens to own most of the collegiate powerlifting records in our fair land. Her husband Jason is a weightlifter as well. I’d love to watch a domestic dispute at their place.

A 25 year-old Ukranian woman that can clean and jerk over 325 lbs is pretty intimidating. And in case you’re confused as to whether or not that’s all lean muscle…it’s not. She’s 5’11” and 368 lbs. She might be the only one on this list literally capable of snapping you like a twig.
This female wrestler (not WWE, the real kind) isn’t one to be trifled with. She’s 160 lbs, she competed in the Olympics in 2004 and her dad is in jail for 30 years for two counts of murder. So, uh, step right up.
Sure, it’s been a while since that moment when the US Women’s soccer team won the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and Brandi threw modesty to the wind and took her shirt off, it was pretty clear that she looked like she was carved from stone. You could grate parmesan on those abs. She may only be 5’7”, but she’s still playing pro soccer at age 42, and she’s still tougher than you are.
This one gets in on genetics alone. Even if her last name wasn’t Ali, she’s 5’10”, 160 lbs, and has scores of boxing titles to her name. 24-0 as a pro boxer. I’m not going to oversell her. She was the best female boxer in the world, and she could still kick your ass
She’s 26-1 as a professional boxer. What’s your record? Yeah, that’s what I thought. After sufficiently owning that league, she branched out into MMA. So go ahead and get a little rough with her. See what happens. I’ll even give you a tip. She’s a southpaw, so keep that right guard up.
Even Sports Illustrated has bequeathed her one of the 20 toughest athletes, regardless of gender. Since 1995, Hayley has been regarded as the best and toughest female hockey player in the game, having turned down many offers to play in men’s leagues throughout the world. Her reluctance to join wasn’t out of fear. Rather, she decided, at the age of 31 to go back to college and get her degree.
The lesser of the two Williams sisters is still not all that “less.” If there were any fights between these two as kids, I’m guessing that they involved broken bones and shattered furniture, not just pulled hair and scratches.
No surprise here. This half of the Williams sisters is clearly the larger, more dominant sister. There may be other women on this list that are stronger than her, but none of them would have as much fun lifting you above her head and twirling you around her head. Trust me, I’ve dealt with her before. Granted it was in a valet line, and she was very polite and nice, but still….I could tell she had a thirst for blood.

Cricket World Cup: Injured Morgan replaced by Bopara

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

England have called Ravi Bopara into their World Cup squad after Eoin Morgan was ruled out with a broken finger.
Morgan missed the seventh and final one-day international against Australia with the injury he first noticed during the fourth game in Adelaide.
England coach Andy Flower said: "Eoin needs to be operated on. It's a serious loss but Ravi Bopara will join us."
Morgan's injury is the latest in a series of problems that have affected England's limited-overs squad.
The bowling division has been worst hit with Graeme Swann(knee/back), Tim Bresnan (calf), Ajmal Shahzad (hamstring), Chris Tremlett (side strain) and all-rounder Paul Collingwood (back) all having flown home early from the Australia tour.
Paceman Stuart Broad was also been sidelined for the entire series due to the stomach injury he suffered during the Ashes series.
Apart from Bresman, all of those names are, however, expected to be fit for the tournament, which starts on 19 February and will be jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
England will open their World Cup campaign against Holland on 22 February without Morgan, who did not feel that the injury to his middle finger on his left hand was anything to worry about at first.
"He injured it in that Adelaide game and didn't think it was serious but it got worse the more he played and practised," added Flower.
"The pain grew worse and therefore the medical team got onto it."
The left-hander is generally regarded as one England's better limited-overs batsmen, however, he did not have the best one-day series in Australia, scoring only 106 runs in six innings, with a top score of 30 as England slumped to a 6-1 defeat.
The 24-year-old has played 61 ODIs, scoring 1,904 runs at an average of 38.08, and at an impressive strike-rate of 81.19, including four centuries.
But Flower insists England's World Cup chances have not been diminished by his withdrawal.
"No-one is irreplaceable," said the 42-year-old. "Ravi Bopara is a very talented and exciting player.
"He will also bring a bit of medium-pace bowling to help out the captain. We're confident the 15 players we've got out there will gel."
Bopara has been in the West Indies with the England Lions but will fly home to join the squad before they travel to sub-continent on 12 February.
The Essex all-rounder has made 54 ODI appearances for England, scoring 1,140 runs at 28.50 with a strike-rate of 73.45, although his top score is 60. With the ball, he has taken 10 wickets at a little over 33 apiece.
"He is going to be a worthy addition to our squad," said England captain Andrew Strauss.
"He hasn't had a chance to play for us recently and we like what he can bring to the game. His bowling and his batting, his ability to clear the ropes in the middle overs."
Strauss went on to admit that the injuries suffered by England had not helped during the one-day series against Australia.
"Having a settled bowling unit has been the basis of our ODI success over the last 18 months and we certainly missed having that in Australia," he stated.
"We believe that when they are all fit our bowling unit is a match for anyone in the world."

Geva Mentor wants netball to have Olympic status

England goal defence Geva Mentor is hopeful netball will be awarded Olympic status, despite losing its bid for inclusion to London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Mentor, 26, who helped England to win bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, has 52 caps for her country.
The Bournemouth-born player told BBC Solent: "It would be the pinnacle for netball to have Olympic status and it would do wonders for the sport.
"It may not happen in my playing career but I want to see it in my lifetime."
The International Olympic Committee approved netball as an Olympic sport in 1995, but it has still failed to gain classification as a participation sport at the games, and lost out to rugby sevens and golf for Rio 2016.
Mentor argues that netball will need to gain more support before it can compete with other sports on a global scale.
"Netball needs someone to take that first step," she added.
"The media have a big part to play in raising the popularity of the sport, as well as sponsorship. We need a big-name sponsor and a bit more coverage.
"The participation levels are there, it is just about maintaining that and we'll be up there.
"We know we can't compete against football and rugby but to have more recognition and insight into the sport would be great."
Mentor divides her time between competing in Australia at the ANZ Championship and playing in England with the international squad.
She won the ANZ Championship with Adelaide Thunderbirds last season but, after spending three years at the club, she has now joined Melbourne Vixens.
"We have the World Championships at Singapore in July and that's the main event for our sport because they come round every four years," Mentor continued.
"But before the build-up to that we have the Test series against New Zealand, which starts [on the] 17th January, so it is going to be a big year for our sport."

Banned Pakistan trio face uncertain future

Today's punishments for the three Pakistan cricketers seemed to please no one.
For two of the players - Salman Butt and Mohammed Asif - the bans spell the probable end of their Test careers.
Butt is 26 and even if he doesn't serve the entirety of his 10-year ban (five years are suspended) he may be too old to come back.
Similarly Asif, who is 28, is unlikely to play at the highest level again after being given a seven-year ban with two years suspended.
Interesting comments from one of the ICC tribunal members Sharad Rao, quoted by the News of the World.

With the cricket world and the ICC bemused by the apparent leniency of the bans handed out to the players, the Kenyan lawyer is reported to have said:

"We had to take in many factors when considering the sentences against the players. We have to remember this was spot-fixing not match-fixing and it did not affect the outcome of any game. That was something we considered for a long time.
"Also, there is the age of Mohammed Amir to take into consideration. He is a wonderfully talented cricketer and we felt we could end his career. We do not believe this was leniency."
This gives us a real insight into why the tribunal stopped short of handing out lifetime bans - even though they were found guilty of the most serious charges of breaking the ICC's anti-corruption code.
Mohammed Amir is just 19 and having received a five-year ban for his part in the conspiracy to bowl no balls at Lord's last summer he has every chance of rehabiliting himself and returning to the Test arena. Those who feared the loss of a rare talent will be relieved.
But, as he left here, he was the most visibly shaken and had earlier been seen red-eyed suggesting he had been crying. His lawyer Shahid Karim insisted he would play again but five years out of the game is an extremely long time.
For the International Cricket Council (ICC) the result was a bewildering disappointment. Their lawyers simply cannot understand why the independent tribunal headed by Michael Beloff seemed to go soft on the players' punishments.
They are yet to get their hands on the full reasoned judgment which could run to more than 60 pages but at first glance they are asking why the players didn't get life bans if they were found guilty of all the offences they were charged with under the ICC anti-corruption code.
By the end, the ICC felt Beloff and his fellow tribunal members Justice Albie Sachs and Kenyan lawyer Sharad Rao had been too lenient.
The players' lawyers claimed afterwards that it was only the ICC's rulebook, which sets minumum sanctions for certain offences, which prevented them from reducing the bans.
This seemed to be backed up by Beloff when he said in his statement he would recommend to the ICC changing their code to provide more flexibility in relation to minimum sentences "in exceptional circumstances".
The News of the World, whose investigation led to the ICC and police action against the players, were extremely critical of the ICC afterwards, arguing they should have been tougher.
But what does all this mean for cricket?
Although Asif, Amir and Butt have escaped joining the elite club of five players banned for life for fixing, today's punishments do send a clear message.
This was a test case for the ICC - it was the first time they had brought charges of fixing under their anti corruption code - and they had to get a result.
With a World Cup on the sub-continent starting in two weeks they were also desperate to bring it all to a conclusion.
The ICC is now taking legal advice as to whether they can publish the full judgment on its website not only in the UK, but anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, Amir has already declared his intention to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and his two team-mates could follow suit next week.
It was also announced by the Crown Prosecution Service on Friday that the men will face
criminal charges relating to conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and to cheat - allegations which they strenuously deny.
In the event that following a trial they were found guilty of those offences, then they could face up to seven years in jail and if that were to happen, that would really put today's ICC vans in perspective.

ICC bans Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif & Mohammad Amir

An International Cricket Council tribunal has found Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir guilty of corruption.
Butt has received a 10-year ban, five of which are suspended, Asif seven years - two suspended - and Amir five.
The trio were accused of spot-fixing in the fourth Test between Pakistan and England at Lord's in August 2010, but have always denied any wrongdoing.
All three can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).
The ICC released a statement from Michael Beloff QC, chairman of the independent tribunal which heard the case.
Beloff's statement read: "The Tribunal found that the charges that (respectively) Mr Asif agreed to bowl and did bowl a deliberate no ball in the Lord's Test, Mr Amir agreed to bowl and did bowl two deliberate no balls in the same Test, and Mr Butt was party to the bowling of those deliberate no balls, were proved.
"We impose the following sanctions: On Mr Butt a sanction of 10 years ineligibility, five years of which are suspended on condition that he commits no further breach of the code and that he participates under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board in a programme of Anti-Corruption education.
"On Mr Asif a sanction of seven years ineligibility, two years of which are suspended on condition that he commits no further breach of the code and that he participates under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board in a programme of anti-corruption education.
"On Mr Amir sanction of five years of ineligibility. No further sanctions are imposed on any player and no orders are made as to costs."
In a separate development, the Crown Prosecution Service announced on Friday the trio and their agent would face criminal charges.
The players have been charged with conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments and also conspiracy to cheat but have strongly denied any wrongdoing.

ICC World Cup 2011: Review Team Pakistan

WELL TO start of with it is actually quite absurd that a sub-continent team playing in sub-continent won't have that much pressure to perform. The reasons are obvious, ravaged by spot fixing scandals and infighting, the Pakistan cricket fraternity is on a recovery mode. And no one really expects them to give that much of a fight. With Salman Butt, Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amer suspended, the first choice bowling attack of Pakistan is gone. With the captaincy issue yet to be resolved, the team morale won't be that high. But still a sub-continent team in sub-continent cannot be ignored.

THE SQUAD

Shoaib Akhtar, Muhammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Umer Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Abdul Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Umer Gul, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir, Ahmed Shehzad.

THE YOUNG BLOOD

Out of the 15 chosen, 8 are those who have never been part of an event of this importance. Clearly the Pakistan selectors did not have an option and leaving out Imran Nazir reaffirms the fact that they wanted to start afresh. If we start taking the replacements for the suspended tainted trio, Ahmed Shehzad is in for Butt and Shehzad is clearly a fire brand if there was any.

He has a distinction of playing at the highest level and then going back to represent Pakistan in the Under 19 World cup. He only has one gear and that is to clear the in-field any how, he is not afraid to take on the fastest of the bowlers and even on bouncy wickets he has played some magnificent  shots on the rise. He won’t get that pace in sub-continent and moreover his 7 match experience might not be enough.

Umar Akmal, a prodigy in the making, probably a complete batsmen Pakistan have produced after the era of Saeed Anwar. Though Younis Khan is probably the best Pakistan has got at the moment. This would be the make or break tournament for Umar. And to utilise his complete ability he must be slotted at No.3 nothing below that.

Wahab Riaz, is the replacement for Mohhammed Asif and to be fair on him he is a decent catch from the bowling factory. He has not exactly filled in the shoes of Asif but his approach ahs been commendable and as with Umar it would be make or break trip that he would be making to India.

THE WORRIES

One the other hand there is Mohammed Hafeez, Pakistan selectors does seem to have a blind faith on this chap. With an average of 22 in 62 ODIs, how the hell he made it to the squad, only reason I can think of is, he is not swashbuckling as Shehzad so they assumed he would be the calmer and wiser partner.

Mohammed Amer could have been the potent weapon for Pakistan instead they had to content themselves with the old potent weapons, Shohib Akhtar. As an old war veteran, it is not his pace or form which has made him survive this long, it’s probably his never say die attitude. And this never “say die attitude” unfortunately looks good on paper or say a blog only.

Being hit for an economy of more than 8 and again coming back to bowl the full quota of overs to end up with run rate of 7 does not fit the bill for never say die attitude. That plainly is poor bowling but Pakistan selectors as I mentioned earlier tend to assume a lot of things.

Kamran Akmal, putting Kamran in the slot is just because of the poor form he is in; he tried his hands as an opener then at number 3 with no effect. In recent times, he has been very successful in the sub-continent primarily against India and his being in form would be of prime importance. He is more like Suresh Raina of Pakistan, unpredictable yet assuring figure.

Inspirational Misbah Ul Haq, is a player of calibre but I doubt his big match playing credentials.

Abdul Razzak is more of confusion; unpredictability has hovered all around his cricketing career. Not as strong a bowler he used to be but he is the variation guy of the team. He can pack a punch and on a given day could be more barbaric than Yusuf Pathan, but its all about him clicking or not. Not exactly a worry but wont put him in chances section as well.

CHANCES

Here chances have to be read as Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi. Gul is the strike bowler, best exponent of death bowling and Shahid Afridi along with Saeed Ajmal, I think is the best spinning duo in the world cup. Classic ODI spinners, with one having the knack of picking up wickets and other choking down the batsmen.

Younis Khan just cannot afford to have a bad day at the office as he would be the spine of Pakistani batting attack.

Semi-final could be the maximum they could reach but again unpredictability is what Pakistan cricket lives with.
